The View from Here

Erica Oram CPAGB AFIAP BPE3* made a very welcome return to Keyworth Camera Club on September 23rd. Her previous visits had been in person, but this time she gave her latest presentation, The View from Here, via Zoom.

Erica has to fit her photography into her everyday life, so she strives to capture the ordinary in an extraordinary way, and does so extremely well.

Erica explored many different themes and techniques for producing eye-catching photographs that our members could try, such as capturing the pain, grit and determination on the faces of competitors in sport. Looking for symmetry in street photography, balancing a subject with emptiness, thinking about how colours work together or would the image be better in monochrome? Intentional blur created in camera or at the processing stage, long exposures, pointing your camera up or down to get a different perspective and many more inspirational ideas.

One strong tip that Erica commented on more than once was that getting closer to your subject produced stronger images, even though there might not be much in the resulting photograph.

Thank-you Erica, for once more providing an excellent and thought-provoking evening for Keyworth C.C. that was enjoyed by all. Your photographs, as always, were superb and certainly showed the strength of presenting images as themes.
