Summer Lockdown Competition Night 2

On the evening of Thursday 18th June, we held our second summer lockdown competition via Zoom. We have two classes, open colour and open monochrome. We are able to submit five images in each section and are limited to just two nature entries per person. As is usually the case with KCC competitions, we had far too many submissions to be handled comfortably in one night so the entries had to be reduced to just three each in both categories and we ended up with 50 images in the colour section and 36 in the monochrome. We also had more people entering this round than before and are very pleased to see that these competitions are so well supported.

Our judge was Alan Young FRPS EFIAP/g DPAGB PPSA BPE5* and he tackled the session with enthusiasm and used his knowledge of what makes a great competition image to give us informative and insightful comments on how to lift our work to the next level. A couple of these suggestions were to try and have your images tell a story and use techniques to make our photographs unique rather than being just a record of what was before us.

Alan was asked to give a first, second and third place in each section and award a number of commendations if he so desired. Over the two section 14 images were thus rewarded. It was great to see so many different people taking these places with 11 members sharing the spoils. The two photographs accompanying this post are the section winners, ‘Little Friends’ by Tony Walker and ‘Downcast’ by Steve Giles. You can see all the placed images by clicking here

Finally, we would like to publicly thank Alan for doing such a sterling job in assessing our images and overcoming a few technical difficulties along the way.
