Polina Plotnikova – Flowers and Still Life

Thursday 23rd April saw us hold our first talk via Zoom. Many of our members attended this online presentation by Polina Plotnikova FRPS EFIAP about creative flower portraiture and still life work.

Polina started by showing some artwork by well-known artists whose paintings had been the stimulus for her photography. Polina explained how she studied their compositions and their use of colour and lighting which she then used as the basis for her own images.

Polina revealed many secrets behind the creation of her work such as tips for sourcing props and how to get her flowers, living or dead, to pose in the graceful shapes that are one of the strengths of her photography. Polina discussed techniques that covered in-camera double-exposures and the use of Lensbaby lenses. Polina also included images that showed how she set up her lighting both using studio flash or available light.

The two halves of the evening flew by, yes, we had a short break to recharge our glasses, as Polina’s images enthralled the memberships in their beauty. It was easy to see why she had won so many awards. Polina’s commentary was instructional, funny, and inspirational.

We would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Polina for providing Keyworth Camera Club with a superb evening and urge all of you who are unfamiliar with her stunning imagery to check out her website here: https://www.polinaplotnikova.com/
