February Review 2025

Our first February meeting saw a number of club members present some of their photographs from last years People Challenge. Each member had to submit one image per month throughout the year to an on-line Flickr group set up specifically for this task. This was their opportunity to show their work to every club member and to talk about their photographs. It was a really interesting evening which reflected the different approaches and styles of photography within the club.

‘Dare to be Different’ was the somewhat challenging title of the following week’s talk, given by Charles Ashton FRPS, who dared us to avoid getting into a ‘comfortable rut’ by trying different techniques in our photography. Charles illustrated his presentation with many outstanding examples of his own work as a travel and street photographer.

Polina Plotnikova gave us a memorable talk on the third Thursday of the month. Her presentation ‘Changing Seasons’ explored her floral photography in outdoor settings, from single flowers to breath-taking vistas. Polina’s images were unique in style and stunningly beautiful. It was a privilege for us to have seen them and to have learnt something about the ways in which they were created.

The above three meetings were held over Zoom, but for the final night of the month we returned to the hall for the fourth round of our internal competition. This consisted of three sections; Colour dpi, Monochrome print and Nature print. Malcolm Sales was our judge for the evening and he commented more than once on the quality of our images, singling out the nature entries as being particularly strong making his task of assessing them pleasurably difficult. The three images accompanying this post are the section winners. You can see all the placed photographs by following this link: https://keyworthcameraclub.org.uk/round-four-2024-25
