Touching the Light

On Thursday November 25th, Keyworth Camera Club was visited via Zoom by West Sussex photographer Ken Scott ARPS APAGB. Ken gave us a presentation called Touching the Light, which was about recording mountain light and the world around us.

Ken has been taking photographs for 40 years and stressed that photograph is all about the light, rather than the subject, and said this applies to everything you photograph, not just landscapes.

Ken doesn’t plan his photograph, he reacts to his surroundings and constantly changes his viewpoint to get the best from his location and the light. Ken tries to include areas where light meets shade, as this adds contrast to his photographs.

The talk was extremely well presented, full of tips and techniques for making that perfectly lit photograph. We were surprised to learn that Ken does very little editing to his pictures as he strives to get it right in the camera, something he said comes from his many years of using film.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Ken for his excellent presentation that was full of inspiring commentary backed up by superb images.
