April Review 2025

April started with an enormous explosion of creative ideas and techniques from Heather Burns, an outstanding photographer and image maker. Her work with composite images was truly exceptional and got everyone talking in the break and afterwards in the pub. Not only was she interesting and stimulating to listen to, she also left us some ‘homework’ to create our own composite images. No excuses…

On the second Thursday of the month, we held the first leg of our photographic ‘battle’ with Lincoln Camera Club. This consisted of 30 images from each club assessed by Ian Pinn; a respected landscape photographer and competition judge. The result of the first round, held in Keyworth, was a narrow victory for us.

Tuesday the 15th saw a few members of KCC head to Lincoln for the second leg of our ‘battle’ with Lincoln CC. The judge this time was Diane Seddon ARPS AFIAP CPAGB BPE3 and she did a magnificent job critiquing the images during which a few technical failures had to be overcome. Unfortunately, our images didn’t score as highly this time around and Lincoln CC took the win for this leg and overall. Congratulations to Lincoln CC and we are now looking forward to next year.

Thursday the 17th saw our members head outside and around Keyworth working in pairs. Their first task was to photograph their partners displaying a specific emotion. The second challenge was to photograph their partner near a pre-determined item in the village and try and make a story from it. The results from this part of the evening will be shown on the final night of the season. The second part of evening was to comment on the progress they had made with individual targets they’d set for themselves at the start of the season. Overall good progress had been made by most members with the promise of even more success before the end of the season.

The final Thursday of the month saw us hold the last heat of our internal competitions. The sections this time consisted of Monochrome pdi’s, Colour prints, and Nature prints. Our judge for the night was Alan Young FRPS EFIAP/D3 DPAGB EPSA ABPE ESPA Hon.CPE. The three images accompanying this post are the section winners and you can see all the winners and placed photographs by following this link: https://keyworthcameraclub.org.uk/round-six-2024-25
