It’s Not What You See, It’s What You Make

On Thursday, September 9th, Keyworth Camera Club were visited, via Zoom, by Mike Martin EFIAP, AWPF. Mike gave us his presentation called ‘It’s Not What You See, It’s What You Make. This was a superb evening filled with eye-catching images that left us all eager to try some of the many techniques he applied to his photographs to make them that little bit different to the norm.

Mike showed us creative portraits and talked us through the thought process behind selecting, and taking, photographs for a panel. He also showed us images he’d created during Lockdown. Mike showed us step-by-step sequences illustrating his methods in adding, removing and enhancing elements within his pictures to simplify them and give them impact. The use of blending modes in Photoshop were discussed in detail too.

A live demonstration of how Mike created one of his images was fascinating to watch and really showed how quickly and easily a lot of photographs can be enhanced or something totally new could be put together.

Thank-you Mike for giving us a terrific presentation that inspired, educated and encouraged us all to try something different with our photographs. This was definitely a very enjoyable and entertaining evening.
