Return to The Hall

Keyworth Camera Club’s new season got off to an excellent start in September. Returning to our hall creates a much better atmosphere than watching on Zoom as we have done for the past couple of years due to Covid making it difficult to meet in person.

Our programme began on September 1st with Diane Seddon giving a talk that covered the history of photograph manipulation which started more or less when the camera first appeared. She then showed images from more modern photographers that inspired her. The take-away from this night was don’t be afraid to copy other people’s ideas.

On September 8th wildlife photographer Jack Perks showed us a wide variety of creatures that can be photographed in the UK, mostly those that are on our doorstep. Jack lives only a few miles from us and his talk really encouraged us to go out into the garden and see what wildlife we can find and try to photograph it in ways that match the quality of his work.

September 15th was cancelled in respect to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

We finally got to see Dave Cudworth’s presentation Zero to One Hundred and Beyond on September 22nd. This had originally been booked a couple of years ago but didn’t happen due to Covid restrictions. Dave told us about his experiences in going for his BPE Crown Awards and explained his observations about why some images did better than others. He also included a few AVs of his stunning landscape photography. This talk was definitely worth waiting for, especially if you enjoy entering competitions.

Our last night of the month, September 29th, was the first round of our internal competition. We had three sections, Open Colour, Open Monochrome and Nature. Our judge, Phil Howcroft, did an admirable job in assessing nearly 100 images in the time available.
