May 2024 Review

Season 2023/24 ends with a cliff-hanger.

On May 2nd we showed the N&EMPF audio visual of the print sections of the 2024 Exhibition. As expected, this selection of quality photographs covered a wide range of subject matter that provided limitless inspiration for our members. This really was a night not to be missed.

May 9th saw KCC members venture into the streets of the village to begin an ambitious project to record the changing face of Keyworth over the coming years. Buildings and scapes being the main focus of the evening before everyone retired to the pub for liquid refreshment. The four photographs accompanying this post were taken during this evening.

Another outdoor event had been planned for May 16th, but bad weather meant a change of plans was needed. Thanks must be given to Steve Myall EFIAP/b BPE5* for stepping in at the last minute to give his macro photography talk ‘Moths’ to the fascinated audience who soon discovered the beauty of these insects and left with lots of tips on close-up photography techniques they were eager to try.

Chris Upton ARPS visited KCC on May 23rd to give his talk ‘Finding the Beauty in Nature’. This is essentially a landscape photography presentation that saw Chris showing many excellent images from around the world. Chris excels with the ability to encourage photographers to get out there and try some of the many tips and techniques that peppered his talk and we are sure many of our members will being following his suggestions very soon.

Our end of season social was held on May 30th which began with a look at a selection of images taken on the evening of May 9th. After that there was a run through of next seasons programme, followed by tea and cakes. After the longer than normal break there was an explanation of changes to our competitions and an opportunity for questions, one of which was when are this season’s trophies going to be presented?

The answer to the question about trophies provided a cliff-hanger ending to the season, as they will be presented on the first night next season so you’ll just have to tune in then to find out. Or better still come along to the club on September 5th 2024 and see for yourselves, perhaps even join our enthusiastic and friendly membership.
